Verizon to finally launch an iPhone in 2010?
It’s certainly not the first time when rumors about a CDMA iPhone for Verizon emerge.
However, this time it looks like the largest North American carrier is finally in talks with Apple for bringing an iPhone to its subscribers sometime in 2010.
According to USA Today, “people familiar with the situation” say that Apple and Verizon are discussing the iPhone matter for a few months now.
AT&T is the exclusive US carrier for the iPhone until 2010. If Verizon persuades Apple to make a CDMA iPhone, not only that the AT&T exclusivity will be gone, but the giant GSM carrier will probably lose many customers who are unhappy with its services but have signed a contract agreement only to get an iPhone.
For Apple, offering iPhones via both AT&T and Verizon would definitely mean more sales and, hence, higher profits.
With Verizon preparing a nationwide LTE network for 2010, we might see a LTE iPhone soon – which, you must agree, wouldn’t be bad at all.
