Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard Reviewed. Verdict: Worth Dropping Two Benjamins

Gaming keyboards have come a long way since the original G15. All the G-keys and the use of LCD to show player stats are ingenious additions that have become an indispensable tool for WoW fans, hardcore CoD4 players, and macro-happy gamers. Since then the market has definitely saturated. (Even MS has two gaming keyboards.)

Despite the stiff competition, Logitech hasn’t lost its edge. The new G19 gaming keyboard is the first major upgrade since the G15 revision. Improvements to the Logitech’s flagship product include full color LCD (including YouTube and VLC compatibility); intuitive creation of powerful macros; support for six simultaneous keypresses; customizable key backlighting; and two self-powered USB 2.0 jacks. Impressive features demand high price and higher power requirement, which is why the G19 costs $200 and why the G19 is the first gaming keyboard that needs an AC adapter (warning: bulky). Everything USB’s reviewer is so impressed with the G19 that any hardcore gamers with $200 to spare should run out and get one. Those who don’t take fragging too seriously should really look elsewhere.

Kitchen-safe Demy recipe reader could revolutionize your cooking

While we can only assume that “kitchen-safe” means that it won’t melt when tossed accidentally in the oven nor be fazed by splattering hot grease, we’d still exercise a good deal of caution when reading off of the Demy digital recipe reader. Crafted by Key Ingredient, this here device packs a sealed 7-inch display, storage for up to 2,500 recipes and USB connectivity for syncing with your PC. Furthermore, it provides three kitchen timers, a measurement conversion calculator and an ingredient substitution dictionary to get cooks out of a pinch if they are one special ingredient short. Currently, the device is listed as “shipping soon” from Amazon, though we’d probably start scrounging up those three Benjamins if you hope to own one free and clear whenever “soon” turns to “now.”

Acer Aspire One D150 with N270 previewed, now available for US pre-order

The 10.1-inch Acer Aspire One D150 has found its way onto Amazon and J&R’s websites and is now available for pre-order in blue and black color options, respectively. This version’s got the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor and 6-cell battery, with no word on the 3-cell or 1.66GHz N280 variants. Asking price is three Benjamins and an Ulysses S. Grant, or $350 if you’re not into presidential pricing nomenclature. Additionally, the fine folks at netbooknews.de that gave us unboxing photos this week have a video hands-on of the laptop. High expectations from the market leader apparently turned into low marks for the glossy display, small trackpad, and a keyboard that’s “separated by universes” — and not in a good way — when compared to the Samsung NC10. Further testing is expected later this week, check out the video after the break.

MSI Wind NetOn AP1900 gets official photography treatment

MSI has gone official with its all-in-one Wind NetOn A1900, which looks to be the M19 we saw in November that was also at CES. The 18.5-inch desktop houses an Intel Atom N270, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB SATA HDD, DVD burner, 4-in-1 card reader, 1.3 megapixel webcam, and an optional 802.11 b/g. Its display is soft-rocking a WSXGA 16:9 resolution with 5 ms response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 250 cd/m² brightness — nothing worth writing home about. No word here on here pricing or availability, but back when it called itself the M19, it was scheduled to hit retail channels last month for five Benjamins.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 in tri-SLI reviewed: great performance, not so great price tag

Jan 28th 2009 Desktops No Comments

The last time we talked about the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285, it was being hailed as the fastest single-GPU graphics cards on the market. The gang at TweakTown decided to take it two steps further and linked up a trio of them to test. So how synergistic is the tri-SLI set up? Probably not enough to pay well over a grand for everything. Aside from price, you’re also gonna need a overclocked / top-of-the-line CPU to enjoy the triplets, and expect enough heat emanating from your rig to melt Alaska. If you’ve got the many Benjamins lying around and are looking for some serious performance, hit up the read link for a more thorough analysis.
