They said my evidence looked dustlike and that they couldn’t remuneration me some more hold since I had a Nexus One, that I had to call HTC. BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 announced by Alltel; Verizon still waiting

Today, Alltel announced the upcoming release of BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230, thus becoming the second US carrier to offer the smartphone – after T-Mobile, which sells its GSM version (Pearl Flip 8220) since 2008.

Of course, Alltel’s Pearl Flip is a CDMA EV-DO device, but, other than that, there aren’t too many differences between it and T-Mo’s handset.

The Pearl Flip 8230 will be available from Alltel starting early May, for as low as $79.99 – with a 2-yr contract agreement and after a $70 mail-in rebate.

It’s a bit weird that Alltel announced the smartphone ahead of Verizon, as rumors about big V’s Flip Pearl have been around since February. Of course, Alltel is now owned by Verizon (although it continues to serve about 2.2 million customers), so it will probably not be long until the big red carrier launches the Flip Pearl 8230 too.

T-Mobile UK announces Pay Once for BlackBerry

Remember that T-Mobile BlackBerry event that was scheduled for April 22 in London? Well, it turns out that the event wasn’t related to the launch of a new smartphone, as we initially thought.

Instead, T-Mobile UK and RIM have announced a new way to pay for a BlackBerry device, called Pay Once.

Starting May 1, T-Mo’s customers in the UK will be able to buy a silver BlackBerry Pearl 8110 for £179.99 (€200 or $260), without having to sign a contract agreement.

The price includes, besides the Pearl 8110 smartphone itself, one year of unlimited email and Internet and “pay as you go top-ups for calls, texts and MMS”.

All in all, the Pay Once deal is definitely not a bad one for those who don’t need a more advanced BlackBerry (like the Curve 8900), or for those who are new to RIM’s devices.

Bell Canada launches first CDMA BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230

Big day for Bell and smartphones as they add the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 on top of the Pal Treo Pro launch a little earlier in the day. Thankfully the BlackBerry seems to have its pricing lined up and will squeeze your piggy bank for $29 on a three-year contract, a steep $349 on 2, $449 for 1-year and is $499 off contract altogether — though the $29 is apparently only until the end of March. Telus is also prepping this flippier BlackBerry for launch, though no word on a date for that just yet. In case you’ve forgotten the pink or black 8230 features GPS capabilities, 128MB of memory, external 1.6-inch and internal 2.4-inch displays, and the oh-so novel 4.6 OS. Grab it now on Bell’s site if you’ve been dreaming of the same ol’ BlackBerry in an entirely new and interesting package.

Update: Pricing updated as site was updated.

BlackBerry Pearl 8230 flips its way into the FCC’s heart

In the unlikely event that you needed a few final shreds of evidence to be convinced that the CDMA version of the BlackBerry Pearl flip — the 8230 — is real, feast your eyes on this heavy reading. Just-approved FCC documents show a device outline that can only be described as that of a clamshell, and sure enough, the SAR report indicates CDMA and EV-DO on the 850 and 1900MHz bands, so yeah, if this isn’t the 8230, we can’t imagine what it’d be. The timing on this development really couldn’t be any better since we’re expecting it to hit both Verizon and Telus in the near term, so quick show of hands: who’s buying?

DVD Jon’s DoubleTwist device-management software enters public beta

It’s been nearly a year since DVD Jon made some noise about doubleTwist by promising to “liberate” iTunes purchases from their DRM, and while that’s no longer particularly relevant in light of Apple’s decision to go DRM-free, we’re actually really digging this newly refocused public beta of the doubleTwist app, which promises to seamlessly manage all your devices from a single interface. Think of it as iTunes meets Windows 7 Device Stage with a dash of social network integration and you’ll get it: you just tell DT where you want your media to go — your phone, Facebook, your PSP — and it’ll handle all the encoding, conversion, and uploading steps for you. Sadly, the iPod, iPhone, Zune and Windows Mobile aren’t supported yet, but the rest of the device list is pretty decent: it includes the BlackBerry Pearl, Storm, and Curve, the G1, Sony Ericsson Cybershot and Walkman phones, the Kindle, Nokia N and E-series phones, and most digital cameras and flash-based camcorders. Of course, iTunes video is still wrapped in DRM, so we’ll see if DVD Jon has any tricks left up his sleeve to make it play nice with non-Apple devices, but for a first shot out of the gate it looks like extremely promising — too bad it’s Mac-only for now.
