I don’t participate most you, but I’m still miffed most the artefact Fox aerated Futurama, so I’m not all trusty if I’d poverty to gaming Bender’s nous every day, opened at me from my DVD ridge and reminding me most added magnificent alive program cut-down in its prime.

On the another hand, Futurama: The Complete Collection does allow every azygos information of the New sci-fi series, including the multiple past feature-length adventures (which didn’t rattling effort the fiber of the example series) and should be dominion for some alive program collection. And of code it also includes Bender’s nous in a copy jar, and a numbered honor from Matt Groening and noesis X. Cohen. $159.98 from FoxStore.com acquirable Oct 13, no Blu-ray.

Panasonic makes school runs more cinematic with its in-dash Blu-ray player

Finicky kids may have their opinions about which brand of peanut butter or sugar-crusted breakfast cereal they prefer, but surely every single one of them wants HD over SD for their in-car viewing experience. Panasonic’s giving them just that, a pair of dash-mountable devices that will finally let you toss those DVDs Disney’s been sneaking in with its Blu-ray releases. First is the CN-HX3000D Windows-powered device, with a 7-inch, 1280 x 720 display offering GPS, Bluetooth, a 40GB hard drive, and iPod/iPhone compatibility. Pair that with the CY-BB1000D in-car Blu-ray player (which, sadly, is not BD-Live compatible) and bam you’ve got all the high-def Chicken Little you can handle. Mind you all this will surely come with quite a price tag when it releases this fall, and while Panny isn’t willing to say just much, isn’t keeping your little videophiles happy worth any cost?

Warner Bros. Wants To Exchange Your HD-DVDs For Blu-ray

red2blu

By Chris Scott Barr

Are you one of the people that was convinced that HD-DVD was going to win in the epic HD format war? I really thought that it had a chance there for a while, but alas, Blu-ray won out. Sure, you can still watch those movies in all of their HD glory, but you still need to keep around an HD-DVD player for it. Well thanks to a new initiative by Warner Bros. you can trade in a few of those obsolete discs for shiny new Blu-ray versions.

That’s right, gather up all of those Warner Bros. HD-DVDs and head over to the Red2Blu site and get yourself all set up. They’re going to ask for shipping and handling, as well as a small fee of $4.95 per disc. I really have to commend Warner Bros. on this. They don’t have any obligation whatsoever to provide an exchange program, but for the sake of their customers they are doing it anyway. I’d definitely get on this while it lasts. That reminds me, I need to hit up the cheap HD-DVD bin at Fry’s next time I’m out that way.

China Blue HD players revealed, second stage of the format war is officially on

China’s alternative to Blu-ray finally has some hardware to show off, with players from TCL and Shinco making their debut this week. Priced at less than 2,000 yuan ($292) they’re reportedly 40% cheaper than the competition, and while the promised support from Warner Bros. has yet to materialize it plans to release 100 movies on the CBHD format by the end of the year. That’s about all the machine translation could help us make out beyond the usual promise of lower licensing fees for Chinese manufacturers, but a better look at the latest (and by far most legit, although that’s not saying much) Blu-ray fighter is beyond the read link.

Dell rolls out updated Studio 15 laptop

Apr 22nd 2009 Laptops No Comments

Dell sort of spoiled the surprise by dishing out some of the details about its updated Studio 15 laptop on its support site a full two months ago (not to mention that little business in Singapore), but the company has now finally gotten fully official with the laptop, and made it available in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. The big news with this update is a new and improved 15.6-inch LED-backlit display, which packs a native 1366 x 768 resolution, and gets paired with some upgraded ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 graphics (available with 256MB or 512MB of on-board memory). Otherwise, you can expect the usual range of Core 2 Duo processors, a built-in 2 megapixel webcam, HDMI out, an optional Blu-ray drive, an optional backlit keyboard, and your choice of six colors, including the snazzy Black Chainlink design pictured above. This being the Studio series, you can also expect prices to remain at a reasonable $649 for the base model, with things moving up considerably from there if you opt for some of those aforementioned options.

Warner reintegrates HD DVD faithful with Red2Blu trade-in program

Apr 22nd 2009 Home Entertainment No Comments

U.S. HD DVD fans that passed up Best Buy’s offer of $3 per disc, or just those who stocked up on cheap movies after the format gave up the fight have another option coming from Warner Bros. Send in the cover art sleeve (keep the disc) including UPC from your HD DVD case (plus $4.95 per movie and $6.95 / $8.95 per order S&H) and it will send you back a brand new Blu-ray copy. There’s a few other restrictions, like 1 copy per movie and 25 different movies per household, but the biggest decision is likely to be whether giving up your precious I Am Legend sleeve is worth the trade, hit up Red2Blu.com for all the details and necessary forms. It seems to us like a decent offer to make HD DVD owners whole, we’d be surprised if Paramount and Universal came through with similar plans.

Acer Unveils Massive Multimedia Notebook

Apr 22nd 2009 Other Stuff No Comments

aspire_8935g-09_og

By Shane McGlaun

I can understand why some users would be interested in multimedia notebooks. The machines tend to be feature packed, have good graphics, and be able to play movies while you are on the go. The downside to the class of machines is that they are usually expensive and can be very large.

Acer has announced a new multimedia computer called the Acer Aspire 8935G. Some specifications of the machine are not announced at this time. What we do know is that the machine will use Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs, run Windows Vista Home Premium, and sports a massive 18.4-inch LCD.

The LCD has 1920 x 1080p resolution and a Blu-ray burner is built-in to take advantage of that resolution. Other features include an 8-cell battery, backlit keyboard, graphics via ATI Radeon HD 4670 and more. The downside is that the machine is massive weighing in at 10.1 pounds. The 8935G is set to launch in June at unspecified pricing.

BBC breaks down the new DRM rules for Blu-ray recorders

Apr 20th 2009 Home Entertainment No Comments

The reason Blu-ray recorders have migrated from Japan to the UK recently — and why you’ll likely never see them in the U.S. — is all about the copyright holders. Danielle Nagler, head of BBC HD, hit the blogs to break down the wheres and hows of the DRM changes associated with bringing FreeSat disc HD DVRs like the Panasonic DMR-BS850 and Humax FOXSAT-HDR to market, basically meaning users are allowed one HD copy of a show, which can be played back on protected devices and connections only (transfer to portable players is planned to the future.) Follow the flow chart for the details, and figure out if it’d be worth it to make your own BD-R DVR backups so easily.
