Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard Reviewed. Verdict: Worth Dropping Two Benjamins

Gaming keyboards have come a long way since the original G15. All the G-keys and the use of LCD to show player stats are ingenious additions that have become an indispensable tool for WoW fans, hardcore CoD4 players, and macro-happy gamers. Since then the market has definitely saturated. (Even MS has two gaming keyboards.)

Despite the stiff competition, Logitech hasn’t lost its edge. The new G19 gaming keyboard is the first major upgrade since the G15 revision. Improvements to the Logitech’s flagship product include full color LCD (including YouTube and VLC compatibility); intuitive creation of powerful macros; support for six simultaneous keypresses; customizable key backlighting; and two self-powered USB 2.0 jacks. Impressive features demand high price and higher power requirement, which is why the G19 costs $200 and why the G19 is the first gaming keyboard that needs an AC adapter (warning: bulky). Everything USB’s reviewer is so impressed with the G19 that any hardcore gamers with $200 to spare should run out and get one. Those who don’t take fragging too seriously should really look elsewhere.

3Dconnexion SpacePilot Pro 3D Mouse

By Andrew Liszewski

While I don’t recommend them for everyday use, 3Dconnexion’s series of Space Navigator mice are the perfect tool if you spend your days in 3D applications like Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage, AutoCad etc. The SpacePilot Pro is the latest addition to the line, and it includes the 3Dconnexion Cap (the large knob) which can be pushed, pulled, twisted and tilted allowing you to navigate a 3D interface. It’s also got a set of ‘QuickView’ Navigation keys for quickly jumping to one of 32 pre-set views as well as duplicate ESC, CTRL, ALT and SHIFT keys so you don’t have to reach over to your keyboard as much.

The biggest addition though is the full-color LCD display which provides visual feedback on what the SpacePilot Pro’s function keys are currently programmed to do, or you can use it to keep an eye on your email with the included Mail applet. And since the display is powered by an open software architecture, you can even write your own custom applets as needed.

The 3Dconnexion SpacePilot Pro is available now for $499.

Lego camcorder spotted, great for kids 8 to 80 (sorry Grandpa)

It looks like those Lego-branded Digital Blue devices we’ve been on the lookout for are starting to see the light of day. This prototype video camera was snapped at the toy fair in Nuremberg — not too many details at this point, but we’re sort of bummed that this one doesn’t have the handmade look of the walkie talkie and digital camera we peeped earlier. At least it doesn’t look like there are many parts for your child to swallow.

Update: We’ve got some new details, care of Kids Tech Review. The flip-out display has a 1.4-inch color LCD panel, there’s five-way navigation on the back and a detachable remote control. No word on what format or resolution it records in, but blocky shooter is due out this summer / fall for $80.

Logitech introduces G-series peripherals for gamers who need lots of buttons
Flush with the success of its G13 gameboard, Logitech is now creating a whole series of peripherals that will all work together to celebrate the seventh letter of the alphabet. The G-series line includes a new $199 G19 keyboard, offering a 320 x 240 color LCD mounted on top and 12 “G-keys” that can have up to three macros assigned to each. Next up is the $129 G35, a 7.1 surround-sound headset with integrated “voice-morphing” options for those who’d rather sound like a space squirrel than domestic gamer. Finally, there’s a new flavor of the G9 mouse, dubbed the G9x, which loses the photo-overlay in favor of a maximum DPI of 5000 — that’s a whole 1800 more than before! Those extra dots will set you back $99 when the G9x releases in April, while the keyboard and headset should come about a month earlier.

iriver e50 appears, charms us with its good looks

Dec 28th 2008 Portable Video No Comments

It seems like it was ages ago that we heard rumors of an aluminum iriver E100… then at the end of November, the E100 Season 2 appeared and the plastic was still in abundance. The E50 (supposedly pictured above) is, however, another tale entirely. The slim, brushed aluminum encased PMP — which will come in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB models — boasts a 1.8-inch color LCD, an FM tuner, and gets a rumored 52-hours of audio life. We don’t have full specs yet, but the players will apparently appear in January with the 4GB costing about €69 (or about $90).

[Thanks, Greg]
