Back when Apple announced the iPhone 3G last year, it was said that we would be able to purchase the phone without having to sign a 2-year contract. What was not mentioned is just when we would be allowed to do so. Rumors started swirling around in the last couple of days that claimed next week AT&T would be offering the phones sans contract.

In this particular instance, the rumors were true. AT&T confirmed that starting next Thursday anyone can walk into one of their stores and purchase an iPhone without inking a 2-year deal. Of course there is that one little catch. The phone will set you back $599 or $699 depending on which model you select, and you’re going to still be tied down to the AT&T network. Honestly, I figured that I’d be using mine for 2 years anyway, so renewing my contract wasn’t that big of a deal.

The Big Toy Hut Sells Custom Minifigs That LEGO Never Will

Custom LEGO Minifigs (Images courtesy The Big Toy Hut)
By Andrew Liszewski

Looking for a way to spice up daily life in your meticulously constructed LEGO town? How about introducing a zombie infestation? Or why not let the Joker and Two-Face from The Dark Knight run amok for a couple of days? That should keep the local fire department, police station and The Watchmen’s Rorschach busy for a while right?

Over at The Big Toy Hut they’ve got a pretty large collection of LEGO minifigs you can buy to populate your town, but it’s the hand-customized figures that really stand out. The attention to detail is perfect, and the custom figures could easily pass as real LEGO minifigs which is important since I’m pretty sure you’re never going to find an official Watchmen LEGO collection at your local Toys”R”Us.

And like anything that’s custom and awesome these figures aren’t cheap at $11.99 a piece, but they’re well worth it if you’re a serious LEGO collector.

Dell now taking Mini 10 orders, sort of

Dell may not be taking orders for the new Mini 10 on its website until February 26th, but it looks like those not willing to go the QVC route can now at least get an order in over the phone, with a few significant limitations. According to one MyDellMini forum user that opted for that route, Dell is only offering one configuration for $449, which doesn’t include GPS or that promised built-in TV tuner, and is available in black only. Otherwise, you’ll apparently get the standard 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and, of course, that 10.1-inch 1024×576 display. Then again, February 26th is just a couple of days away, and with a stated ship date of March 31st, there’s no indication that these phone orders will actually be landing in your hands any sooner.

Update: We’re not quite sure what’s going at Dell, but the Mini 10 is now up on its website and available to order, two days ahead of schedule. There’s still no configuration or color options, however, and that $449 price has now magically become $474 for what appears to be the exact same system, so you may just want to wait until things shake out once and for all before taking the plunge.
