At CES we came crossways quite a some accessories for adding GPS functionality to the iPod Touch and add the prototypal impact iPhone, but they commonly consisted of some grotesque arm or scheme that prefabricated the amount awkward to dispense around. But PosiMotion has become up with what I conceive is a meliorate idea. Their G-Fi is essentially a battery-powered wireless router with built-in GPS element that crapper course guidance and function accumulation to your device. It entireness with both the iPod Touch and iPhone 2G in organization with PosiMotion’s Navmii turn-by-turn guidance code ($32.99) and patch the mini router crapper be used to move some devices that hold ad-hoc wifi networks for multiplayer activity or enter transfers, I’m not trusty if the streamed GPS accumulation crapper be used by another applications.

The built-in rechargeable shelling powers the G-Fi for most 5 hours with a information arrange of most 100 feet, and I surmisal the $99 sound attach is a discernment cheaper than upgrading to the iPhone 3G or 3GS depending on your current contract. But if you’re disagreeable to opt between the iPod Touch with this and a incommunicative GPS device, the latter is belike a cheaper solution. However, if you’re foregather fascinated in the ambulatory wifi router aspect, PosiMotion also sells the G-Fi VS which has a 6 distance shelling since it’s not powering GPS chipsets, and a sound attach of foregather $49.99.

I’ve said it before and I’ll feature it again, I commonly don’t aforementioned to indite most create devices, but every erst in a patch something comes along that I desire becomes a reality. Like the Peepo, which is essentially a GPS guidance amount for the visually broken who rely on a designate dog. So instead of attaching it to the dashboard of a car, the Peepo attaches to a designate dog’s handle, and instead of providing navigational feedback via an LCD display, the Peepo crapper cows someone who’s visually broken via impalpable vibrations change in their fingertips.

Navigon Turns iPhone into real GPS device

navigoniphone-sb

By Shane McGlaun

I am still rocking the original iPhone so I don’t get that snazzy GPS location feature. Sure, I can find my general location with the phone using cellular towers, but have often wished for a full GPS device when I was on the road.

Navigon has announced a new application coming to America for the iPhone 3G and 3G S soon called MobileNavigator. The app is only compatible with devices running the 3.0 OS update. The app stores a full map database on the iPhone and offers turn-by-turn routing.

The App will be offered in Lite and full versions. The Lite version will not have the navigation capabilities, but will offer maps and a POI database. The full version will offer those features and driving directions. The maps rotate depending on the orientation of the screen. The app features Reality View Pro, Lane Assistant Pro, and Speed Assistant modes.

ClarionMind MID / PND gets reviewed

Clarion’s ClarionMiND MID / PND has been a long time coming but, with the first few non-3G-equipped units now out there in the wild, we’re finally starting to get some reviews of the device, one of which comes from the folks at Mobile Tech Review. As you might expect, there’s quite a bit of compromises to be found both as an MID and a GPS device, although it does seem to be considerably more well-suited to the latter task than the former. The biggest drawback on that front, it seems, is a weak built-in speaker that may not be powerful enough to overcome road noise. Things seem to be decidedly more lackluster when used as an MID, however, a situation that isn’t helped by its underpowered 800MHz Z500 processor, its 850mAh battery, or its custom Linux distribution, which handles the basic internet-browsing tasks just fine but makes it difficult to install any third party apps. Hit up the link below for the complete rundown.

TeleNav launches GPS navigation for the G1

They finally, really did it. Have you been lugging around that G1 and a GPS unit, grunting disdainfully every time you have to bust the latter out? Well it looks like TeleNav has heard your cries of disgust. The company is officially launching its turn-by-turn GPS navigation for the Android-powered device come February 24th. The software will feature full color 3D graphics, speech recognition, one-click rerouting, and traffic alerts, as well as weather updates, gas prices, and restaurant reviews (the PR claims over 10 million business and services). The service will launch with a 30-day free trial, after which it’ll run you $9.99 a month. While we can’t say we’re too stoked on the price, it’s still not too terrible of a fee to pay to actually put that GPS chip to use (and save some room in your glove compartment). Convergence: we’re almost there.
