Pantech IM-R470S with unconverted video playback launched

First seen last month, when Pantech announced its new TruEmotion 3D User Interface, the IM-R470S touchscreen phone is now available in South Korea, via SK Telecom.

Launched under Pantech’s Sky brand, the IM-R470S seems to be a great multimedia device.

It can play unconverted video files (H.264, MPEG4, DivX, XviD) and display them on the 3.2 inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) Sharp LCD screen, which has a 160 degree viewing angle.

The phone also features the already-mentioned TruEmotion 3D Cube UI, accelerometer, proximity sensor, DMB TV tuner, Back Ground Play, Picture in Picture, GPS, Bluetooth, a 3MP autofocus camera, and 4GB of internal memory.

The IM-R470S is a Korea-only handset, but let’s hope that Pantech will launch similar phones (with the TrueEmotion UI) outside its home country soon.

Samsung Galaxy i7500 from O2 UK in August

Samsung Galaxy i7500, the first Android phone announced by Samsung, will be available next month (August) in the UK via O2.

It’s not clear yet if O2 will be the only British mobile operator to offer the Galaxy i7500, but one thing’s certain: the carrier will have an impressive line-up of smartphones this summer, including the iPhone 3G S, the Palm Pre and possibly the Toshiba TG01 too.

Coming with Android 1.5 OS on board, Samsung Galaxy has a nice set of features, including: a 3.2 inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels, quad-band GSM and tri-band HSPA connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm headset jack, a 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 8GB of internal memory and MicroSD card support.

The price of Samsung Galaxy i7500 from O2 is not known, but the carrier might offer it even for free on select plans.

Spy Camera Keychain – Why Do You Keep Sticking Your Keys In My Face?

JTT Spy Camera Keychain (Image courtesy Geek Stuff 4 U)
By Andrew Liszewski

I doubt anyone will realize this innocuous-looking keychain is actually capable of recording 640×480, 29fps videos or 1280×960 stills while it’s hanging from your keys. But something tells me they might get suspicious when you’re constantly holding it at weird angles trying to get the lens pointed in the right direction. The keychain’s got 4GB of internal memory, which is enough to store 65 minutes of video or about 3,000 photos from the 1.3MP CMOS sensor, and it charges and syncs to your PC via a simple USB cable. However, I think the $177 price tag from Geek Stuff 4 U is a bit steep.

Samsung Announces 4 Low-End Models; The World Yawns

Picking a rather unusual day to announce new phones, Samsung officially came out with four low-to-mid-range handsets to balance out the recent emphasis the company has had on smartphones (Samsung Jet, for instance).

All of these phones we’ve seen before, either at trade shows or through leaked live pics. The S6700 and C5510 are two sliders; we’ve also seen the Samsung M2310 and the  Samsung M2510.

Please feel free to check out the above links for detailed pics and information on each announced phone, but let’s recap and go over what we know about them.

Samsung M2310

sam-m2310

Music oriented, much like BeatDJ.

  • Slider
  • GPRS/EDGE – No 3G connectivity announced yet
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Bluetooth
  • FM Radio
  • “Mobile Tracker” which tracks down the phone if lost/stolen
  • 2 MP camera
  • MicroSD
  • Accelerometer

Samsung M2510

sam-m2510

The M2510 comes with dedicated music keys, a small alphanumeric keypad and a 2.2 inch QVGA display. Also, it has MP3 player, FM radio, Bluetooth, USB and 1.3 MP camera. It will not have 3G connectivity.

Samsung S6700

sam-s6700

  • Quad-band GSM connectivity
  • HSDPA
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • FM radio with RDS
  • 3.2MP camera
  • GPS
  • 120MB of internal memory
  • MicroSDHC card support

Samsung C5510

sam-c5510

The C5510 has a 2.2 inch screen with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and can support as much as 16GB in added memory with its microSD slot, and offers a 2MP fixed-focus camera.

The C5510 also offers:

  • Quad-band GSM connectivity
  • Music player
  • FM radio with RDS

So, not much in the shocker category, but these could be some great phones to consider if you’re not in the market for a smartphone. No word on pricing or availability yet, but we assume sometime later this summer.

Moreover, it looks like the brand new Windows Mobile smartphone will come to Verizon in a white color version – Samsung has only announced a black one.

Phone Arena – the source of this rumor (because it’s a rumor after all) – doesn’t have further details, but let’s hope Verizon will soon come with something official about all this.

Samsung Pixon 12’s price in Spain: €639, unlocked

A few weeks ago, when Samsung unveiled the new Pixon12 M8910 camera phone, it didn’t announce the handset’s price.

Now we’re hearing that, in Spain, the Samsung Pixon 12 will retail for €639 ($897) – probably slightly more than you’d want to pay for an unlocked phone, even if it’s the first in the world to have a 12MP camera.

Most probably, the price of the unlocked Pixon 12 will be similar in other European markets.

Customers in Spain should be able to buy the Samsung Pixon 12 starting late August. In September, the phone will be offered through at least one carrier, so it will cost less when bought with a contract agreement.

Apart from the 12MP camera with autofocus, Xenon flash and 720 x 480 pixels video recording, the Pixon 12 also features HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity, a 3.1 inch AMOLED WVGA touchscreen display, GPS, Wi-Fi and 150MB of internal memory.

More than 2 million Samsung Jet phones pre-ordered

Unveiled last week as a handset that’s “smarter than a smartphone”, the Samsung Jet S8000 will apparently be one of Sammy’s most successful devices of 2009.

The company has announced that it received more than 2 million pre-orders for the Jet.

We’re not sure if this includes the units that can already be purchased from Vodafone UK, but, either way, it’s an impressive number.

The new phone has a set of very nice features, including a 3.1 inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, TouchWiz UI 2.0, HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP camera, 800 MHz processor and 2GB of internal memory.

Starting this month, Samsung Jet S8000 should be available worldwide, in no less than 50 countries.
