It haw not lean aforementioned a La-Z-Boy, but the planet lounge from Switzerland-based Artanova makes up for it with an desegrated sending PC bowed by a change of LCD displays that imbibe discover of apiece armrest. It’s also got an iPod/iPhone cut (but what lounge doesn’t these days?) and module endeavor your penalization over a ordered of unseeable speakers which includes an 8-inch subwoofer. The best feature though is that the planet as a lounge actually features a kinda gratifying design, and I don’t conceive most grouping would nous having digit in their experience room. Except that most grouping belike aren’t selection to add $15,436 on what essentially becomes a Doritos crumb receptacle.

ReBraun music jukebox is beautifully retro, woefully expensive

Got a thing for vintage, do ya? If so, you owe it to yourself to have a gander at the ReBraun music jukebox, which was modeled after the absolutely stunning Audio 1 Kompaktanlage (circa 1962). This here device is crafted from aluminum and sports twin LCD displays in place of radio scales, and the optional WiFi module gives it a link to legions of internet radio stations. Needless to say, the mix of old and new is downright tear-jerking, but we’d argue the €12,000 ($15,561) price tag is even more so.

Hands-on with Navigon’s newest GPS units

Navigon had a shockingly large presence at CeBIT this year, and considering just how many issues these Europeans seem to have with following directions, we weren’t at all surprised to find it among the most crowded booth at the entire show. Needless (and harmless, might we add) jabs aside, the firm had a number of its latest GPS units up on display, and while the model numbers (and software, obviously) were a touch different than the US models announced yesterday, the hardware was definitely the same. We really dug what we saw, too, as the curvaceous, thin designs really caught the eye and the LCD displays were all bright and easy to read. If you’re hungry for more pics, you know where to look.

Compal’s APA00 and APA01 support HD video, can’t display it

Compal’s enlisting two new recruits into the PMP army, the APA00 and APA01. Both uCLinux-powered devices sport 7-inch LCD displays, DMB-TH, FM Tuner, 802.11g, up to 80GB HDD, an SD/MMC slot, and component / composite outputs. Codec support includes MPEG, Xvid, WMV9, H.264 and a variety of audio formats. The company’s boasting HD support up to 1080i, but with a WVGA resolution, you’re not gonna be enjoying that crisp of an image without an external screen. Aesthetics aside, the only difference we could find is an extra six grams of heft in the black-clad APA00. Not a peep on pricing or availability.

twoeleven Foosball Table

twoeleven Foosball Table (Images courtesy id-entity)
By Andrew Liszewski

While their website isn’t going to win any awards when it comes to design or usability, the twoeleven Foosball Table created by ‘id-entity’ does manage to score a few points in the design department. The curvy plastic finish would look great in any gaming room, and other features like an LED scoreboard behind each goalkeeper, a ball lift that looks like it’s made from carbon fiber and retractable cup holders add to the cool factor. But unfortunately the addition of LCD displays on each end just seems stupid. As far as I can tell they’re not tied into the game whatsoever, and they’re positioned in a way so that those actually playing foosball can’t see them. Not to mention the fact that they’re positioned under the cup holders, ensuring they’ll be coated in a sticky film after just a few days. Price and availability are unknown.

LG Display CEO says that LCD panel prices have “reached a bottom”

The company may not exactly have the final say on the matter, but LG Display CEO Kwon Young-soo seems confident that the market for LCD panels is finally set to turn around, with him saying today that, “the good news is that we’ve reached a bottom,” and that, “TV panel prices will likely stop the downward trend and recover.” LG doesn’t see things completely turning around overnight, however, and in the meantime it says it’ll be pouring more than $400 million into a new production line designed to produce high-end LTPS LCD displays for mobile devices, which it apparently expects will be a more profitable area, and help it turn that frown upside down once more.
