First seen last month, when Pantech announced its new TruEmotion 3D User Interface, the IM-R470S touchscreen phone is now available in South Korea, via SK Telecom.

Launched under Pantech’s Sky brand, the IM-R470S seems to be a great multimedia device.

It can play unconverted video files (H.264, MPEG4, DivX, XviD) and display them on the 3.2 inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) Sharp LCD screen, which has a 160 degree viewing angle.

The phone also features the already-mentioned TruEmotion 3D Cube UI, accelerometer, proximity sensor, DMB TV tuner, Back Ground Play, Picture in Picture, GPS, Bluetooth, a 3MP autofocus camera, and 4GB of internal memory.

The IM-R470S is a Korea-only handset, but let’s hope that Pantech will launch similar phones (with the TrueEmotion UI) outside its home country soon.

Not long ago there was a mod floating around the interweb where a guy had turned the Apple logo on his MacBook into an LCD screen. It was definitely an original mod, one that left a person wondering just how they could do this to their own laptop. Well Eddie Zarick (the guy that did the original mod) has been gracious enough to post full instructions on how to do this. Of course, it was easy for farmer Bob to find his way home later when he turned on the bright 3 watt white LED, and he could always look at the flashlight’s LCD screen to check on how much power was left in the 3 C batteries as well as the status of his recordings. All in all, farmer Bob was proud of his $399.95 investment, and it served him well, until one night, farmer Bob never came back.

So, let this be a lesson to you: if you go out stalking cow stealing aliens with a $400 infrared video recording flashlight, and your friends call you crazy, listen to them, ’cause man, you’re crazy.

Besides jumping on the netbook bandwagon, at their press conference on Wednesday Sony announced that they’d be entering the cheap and easy-to-use hi-def web video camcorder market with their new ‘Webbie’ cameras. Both models capture high-def MPEG4 video or 5 megapixel photos and come with “PMB portable software” making it easy to upload your shots or clips to online sharing services like YouTube. The MHS-PM1 Webbie pictured above (available in April for about $170) has a vertically oriented body and a rotating swivel lens making it easy to take self shots, while the MHS-CM1 pictured below (about $200 available now) has a more traditional camcorder body with a 5x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch swivel LCD screen. And both are available in your choice of orange, eggplant or silver color schemes.
