Game Fighter Game Boy Clone – Better Than The Real Thing?

Game Fighter Game Boy Clone (Images courtesy difuno)
By Andrew Liszewski

A few months ago I picked up an original Game Boy off of Craigslist, just because, but I’d love to add this Game Fighter knock-off to my collection as well. It accepts and plays standard Game Boy cartridges and supposedly has a clearer screen than Nintendo’s original, though I’m not entirely sure what that means. It also features a horizontal orientation like the Game Boy Advance, and while sadly this Game Fighter isn’t for sale, it appears to be part of Photobucket user difuno’s awesome gallery of classic handheld gaming devices that’s totally worth checking out.

Canon Rebel T1i trickling out to stores

Sure, the Nikon D5000 might have gotten itself a ship date today, but Canon’s Rebel T1i is doing one better and actually turning up in stores a couple weeks ahead of its scheduled mid-May debut. This particular specimen was spotted at Bromfield Camera in Boston, but we’d love to hear if you’ve seen this guy pop up elsewhere — let us know!

Hyperkin’s FC Mobile II plays your old NES carts any way you’d like

We’ve truly fallen in love. Hyperkin’s FC Mobile II tickles our every retro-gaming fantasy, combining portable cartridge-based NES action on a 2.5-inch screen, complete with TV-out, two “standard” wireless controllers, and a wireless gun just to top off the majestic collection. Even better, the whole kit is going for around $60 on eBay, so we can spend the rest of our suspicious money horde on Joystick Test Cartridges and tasteless cufflinks.

Qbox-N270 nettop hits the FCC

You gotta love it when three small numbers give away virtually all of a product’s specs, but such is the age of Atom — one look at Foxconn’s QBox-N270 in the FCC database and we knew that it was packing a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, and at most a 160GB drive. Actually, the most interesting thing about this Linux-powered rig other than the lime green case is that it has a modem port — is this the nettop rural America has been screaming for? Only time will tell.

Motorola teams up with David Beckham to sell its Aura phone

Motorola Aura, the luxury phone announced back in October 2008, is available for purchase since December last year.

But Motorola is probably not happy with the way sales are going (and no wonder, since the handset costs $2,000).

So now the company announced a new advertising campaign, called “Aura of David Beckham” and obviously starring the famous football player.  The campaign will be launched in Europe at the end of April.

Talking about the Aura, David Beckham said:

“I love classic watches, so a phone that exposes its mechanics while also being so stylish is really unique. When you hold it, it feels like you have something really special in your hand.”

Now I wonder if Angelina Jolie would want to star in an advertising campaign for the Palm Pre…

Anyway, here you have the “Aura of David Beckham” video (although there’s actually not much to see in it, save for – of course – David Beckham, who looks like the Terminator):

RIM CEO on BlackBerry Storm: “nobody gets it perfect out the door”

If there’s one two things we love, it’s hearing RIM’s own Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis open their gaping traps. While the former was sufficiently panned back in January for exclaiming that buggy smartphone software was simply the “new reality,” his partner in crime may have just done him one better. In a recent sit-down with Laptop Mag, Mike was specifically asked to address that aforementioned quote. His response? “That’s our first touch product, and you know nobody gets it perfect out the door. You know other companies were having problems with their first releases.” If you’re struggling to translate that into layman speak, allow us: “Tough luck, early adopters!”

As the interview progressed, the co-CEO took the opportunity to snub Apple on its inability to get Push Email out early on, noting that BlackBerry OS has “constantly been underestimated” and was “designed to multitask from day one.” He also stumbled all over himself when it came to speaking about the BlackBerry’s web browser, stating that “by writing our browser in Java, that provides our CIOs and wireless managers the assurances they need, to allow the browser to access internal information at the same time it accesses external information.” We’ve literally meditated on that for a solid half-hour, and we still have absolutely zero idea what it means in English. Nevertheless, the whole thing is a pretty great — if not comical — read, so give it a look and share your colorful opinions in comments below.

MIB 1983 Takara Kronoform Diakron Robot Wristwatch On eBay

1983 Takara Kronoform Diakron Robot Wristwatch (Images courtesy eBay)
By Andrew Liszewski

I’ve already written about my love for Kronoform robot watches a few years ago, which is why I’m finding this eBay auction for a 1983 model that’s still in the original packaging very tempting. Unfortunately, the $250 starting bid is a little too rich for my blood, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying and reminiscing over the watch’s original packaging. In fact I’m amazed at how many different transformation modes there are based around the robot standing on its head. Battle Station, Solar Cannon, Caterpillar Launcher? They really didn’t give us kids as much credit as we deserved.

Thanks ‘chummaker’!
