Inspiron Mini 10 finally shows up at Dell’s website

In one of the most bizarre sequences of events we can recall, Dell’s Inspiron Mini 10 has finally arrived on its maker’s website. And this is after being briefly (and we stress “briefly”) unveiled in a 3- x 3-foot cubical at CES, being impersonated at Tecso by the smaller Mini 9 and showing up early on QVC. Yeah, weird. At any rate, we knew that the Round Rock powerhouse was looking to offer this pup up for sale starting on the 26th, so we figure now is a perfect time to host up a holding place in order to get people informed. As we’d heard, it’ll sport a 10.1-inch display, 802.11b/g WiFi, optional Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI out, an external DVD drive, upwards of 160GB of HDD space, 1GB of RAM, a keyboard that’s 92 percent the size of a standard laptop (that’s the same as on ASUS’ Eee PC 1000HE, by the way), a multitouch trackpad, 720p media playback, optional WWAN, an internal TV tuner and your choice of a 3-cell (3 hours) or 6-cell (6.5 hours) battery. Yummy!

[Thanks, John]

Memorex introduces TouchMP portable media player

Memorex’s portable media players aren’t exactly always attention-grabbers, but it looks like the company’s new TouchMP model could be a slight exception, if only for the fact that it’s a full-on touchscreen PMP for $99 (and no doubt less after retailers start their usual discounting). For that price, you’ll get a 2.8-inch QVGA display, along with 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot for additional expansion, an FM radio, and all the usual media playback options, including podcast support. Somewhat notably, the device is also “adaptable” to both portrait or landscape modes, although it’s not clear if it actually makes use of an accelerometer or not. Look for this one to hit all the usual sources sometime in March.

Linksys announces Media Hub NAS

We knew Cisco would be throwing down in the home media space, and it’s coming out in force, supplementing that sexy Wireless Home Audio system with the web-enabled Media Hub NAS. Both the $400 500GB NMH405 and $430 NMH410 (1TB) feature a front-panel LCD and card reader, while the $350 NMH305 (500GB) does away with such frills. All three models come with a single drive, but can be expanded with a second unit later. The web interface actually looks super-slick, with file system and media playback functionality available to any web browser. Of course, you can also stream to any UPnP AV / DLNA device, and there’s also iTunes streaming if you roll like that. Not a bad little package, if you’re in the market — we’ll see how that interface runs in person later this week.

Dell Malaysia nabs a Studio 14 laptop before the rest of us

Here’s a fun game that you can play at home: what comes between “Studio XPS 13″ and “Studio 15″? If you guessed “Studio 14,” you can count just about as well as those Dell marketing types. Granted, granularity has always been sort of a thing with Dell, so we can’t really harsh on them too much for giving us more options — though this laptop has only popped up at Dell Malaysia so far, so perhaps we’ll be spared the distinction (unlikely). For 3,599 RM (that’s “Malaysian ringgits,” about $1,038 of our boringly “US dollars”) you can score a Core 2 Duo T8100 2.10GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, X3100 integrated graphics, 250GB HDD and a 14.1-inch LED-backlit 1280 x 800 display. Those magical media playback controls to the right of the keyboard? Those come free.

TRENDnet rolls out 7-inch digital photo frame / camera monitor

Well, it looks like the ol’ softies and TRENDnet have finally found a way to liven up the family photo slideshow a bit: ’round the clock security camera footage! To make that possible, the company’s new 7-inch TV-M7 photo frame connects to your home network and is able to detect any wireless TRENDnet security cameras also connected to the network, which can be displayed on their own or four at a time on the screen. Otherwise, the device looks to be a fairly standard photo frame, with it packing 512MB of built-in storage and a memory card slot for further expansion, along with a remote control, a built-in speaker, and all the usual media playback functionality. As you might expect, however, you won’t get this one for the price of your usual 7-inch photo frame, with it running a somewhat hefty $262.99.
