Remote control your rolly with Rolly Remote, now in the US

Japanese owners of Sony’s little rolling music… thing have been able to remote control their Rollys via Bluetooth since late last year, and now folks elsewhere in the world are getting a shot with the release of Rolly Remote for US owners. The software and firmware update let you connect to Rolly wirelessly from a PC (it doesn’t look like we get mobile phone connectivity yet), enabling control over the thing’s playlist and movements. You can jack into seven of the little wheelie monsters at a time, meaning all you would-be choreographers out there finally have a way to express those emotions welling up inside without having to hire a bunch of dancers. (Vivaldi’s Greatest Hits collection not included.)

Netflix notches 2 billionth delivery with a Blu-ray disc

2,000,000,000. That’s how many movies Netflix has shipped out since coming on the scene in 1999. Lucky number two billion — Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist on Blu-ray) snagged Clay Shannon a complimentary lifetime subscription (guess he’s not too concerned about the new, higher Blu-ray rates.) It took the company eight years to cross the one billion milestone, and only two for the next billion. While there’s little indication of a slowdown in the two million movies shipped out every day from 58 distribution centers, we wouldn’t be surprised if number 3 billion were just as likely to come as a download than anything else.

Combi iPod Bouncer Forces Your Musical Tastes On Your Kids

Combi iPod Bouncer (Image courtesy ThinkGeek)
By Andrew Liszewski

As if raising kids wasn’t already expensive enough, ThinkGeek now wants you to get them addicted to the gadget high-life before they can even walk with the Combi iPod Bouncer. It looks like your standard infant bouncer, albeit with a slight designer twist, but the ‘killer app’ is the input for your iPod, or presumably any MP3 player. Not only does the Combi bouncer have some manner of built-in speakers allowing junior to enjoy your playlist of choice, but there’s also a vibration unit that’s driven by the music, because I guess babies like vibration.

Other features include a 3-point padded harness, a weight capacity of 25 lbs, a removable bar with hanging toys and electronic controls in the back allowing you to make adjustments without disturbing the child. All for $79.99 from ThinkGeek.

Amulet Remote actually listens when you yell at it

Now here’s a novel concept. The Amulet Remote, designed specifically for Vista Media Center but likely adaptable to other setups, is a voice-activated controller that enables users to record a series, watch a recorded show, skip to a new playlist or queue up a photo slideshow by simply hooting and hollering. The built-in microphone is there to take whatever vocal abuse you feel is warranted, and there are even a few actual buttons if you’re still fond of the tried-and-true approach. It’s expected to ship in March for a palatable $299; have a look at what it can do for you in the video after the break.
