Look, some people are perfectly content to swap a DVD with Netflix once a millenia and watch Matthew Broderick and Michelle Pfeiffer in Ladyhawke on their Xbox 360 — other people demand something a bit more “hip” on their Instant Watch queue. Netflix is apparently investigating the possibility of an additional $10 monthly fee to watch HBO shows and movies on the streaming service, or at least has a poll to that effect. For people that keep cable around just for things like HBO and Showtime, it’s an attractive proposition, and perhaps a bit of an inevitability, but at $10 a month we’d expect Netflix to toss in a bit more premium content than just what one channel has to offer. What’s clear is that either way, people are going to find a way to watch this stuff online, and the first provider to figure out the right way to monetize and distribute it wins. This seems like a tentative step in the right direction, if it comes to pass.

Pentax’s convention-defying white and black K2000 DSLR may not be for everybody, but those wanting to stand out in a crowd of shutterbugs will no doubt be pleased to learn that the camera (complete with both 18-55mm and 50-200mm lenses) is now available for pre-order direct from Pentax. Best of all, it’s available for the decidedly non-premium price of $679.95, which is actually a bit less than we were expecting when it was first announced. You’ll still have to wait until mid-February for it to actually ship, however, but that should at least give you enough time to get the rest of your gadgets Colorware’d to match. Well looky here, the wonders that is print media isn’t useless just yet — thanks to very long lead times and an ambitious postal worker, the latest edition of CE Pro Magazine reveals the evidently soon to be announced ZvPro. The ad doesn’t offer up enough details for us, but it does look like some of our biggest gripes about the original ZeVee Box are addressed. For example, now we have component and Toslink input as well as RS-232 control and an IR port — no indication if that is an input or an output. The rack mountable device is obviously geared towards the prosumer so it isn’t too much of a stretch to assume this little baby will demand a premium price — if we were the betting type, we’d have our money on over $800. But even at that price, we’re sure this box will find at least a few homes as there are plenty of people trying to figure out how to send HD over the existing coax in their home without mounting a STB on the wall below the HDTV.

iRex’s Digital Reader 1000S didn’t exactly do a whole lot to distinguish itself when it debuted alongside its two other 1000 series counterparts a few months back but, judging from Engadget Chinese’s hands-on of the unit, it seems to at least hold its own against your average e-book reader, even if it may not be able to justify its premium price tag ($749). On the upside the 10.2-inch, 160 dpi display appears to deliver as expected, with it provided a fairly comfortable reading experience, although some small text may have you reaching for the zoom function. Unfortunately, the device as a whole seems to be a tad on the sluggish side, and there is that small matter of the price, which puts the iRex well above the likes of the Kindle and some other upstart e-book readers.
