Samsung S3030 Eco launched by T-Mobile in the Netherlands

Samsung and T-Mobile have announced a new eco phone, dubbed Samsung S3030 Eco and available as of yesterday (July 2) in the Netherlands.

The S3030 Eco is a remake of the Samsung S3030 Tobi slider, which was announced by Sammy back in November 2008 as a phone for kids.

Made out of bio-plastic, the S3030 Eco is free of BFR (brominated flame retardants) and PVC. Its charger is an eco-friendly one, while its packaging is 100% made from recyclable materials.

The new phone features MP3 player, FM radio, photo camera (probably a 1.3MP one), and MicroSD card support, up to 8 GB.

Samsung Omnia Pro with landscape QWERTY coming this summer?

This is totally unsubstantiated, but also totally plausible — likely, even — so we wanted to pass along a hot rumor out of Italian site hdblog.it claiming that there’ll be a QWERTY-equipped Omnia Pro hitting the market in the coming months, and they’ve even crafted a mockup looking like the offspring of an F700 and an original Omnia to illustrate their point. Specifically, the rumor suggests that the Omnia Pro will run Windows Mobile 6.1 upgradeable to 6.5 — which might explain Sammy’s decision to back off the OmniaHD branding for the Symbian-powered i8950 — along with a 5 megapixel cam and sweet 3.5-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Considering that the old Omnia is widely considered to be one of the company’s better (and more successful) smartphones in recent memory, it certainly stands to reason that they’d want to carry on the legacy — and slapping on a sliding landscape keyboard seems like a no-brainer way to do it. To top things off, gossip has this sucker launching this summer for something in the range of €500 ($662), which throws it face-first into this summer’s superphone smackdown alongside the N97, the GSM Pre, and whatever Apple has up its sleeves. Fun time to be alive, isn’t it?

Samsung i7500 oficially confirmed as Samsung

After the Samsung S8000 was unveiled, many have thought this would be the first-released Android smartphone to bear Sammy’s brand.

But it looks like that’s not true and, instead of the S8000, we’re going to have the i7500 as the first Samsung handset to run on Google’s open source platform.

According to the::unwired, Samsung i7500 will be released in Germany sometime in June, exclusively via O2.

The new Android smartphone is only 11.9 mm thick, it has no hardware keypad and it looks pretty good:

samsung-i7500-2

Here’s a list with the specs of Samsung i7500:

  • Android 1.5 (Cupcake)
  • Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity
  • Tri-band UMTS/HSPA connectivity (900 / 1700 / 2100 MHz) – this allows the handset to run on T-Mobile USA’s network
  • 3.2 inch capacitive AMOLED display with HVGA (480 x 320) resolution
  • GPS
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • 5MP camera with LED flash
  • 3.5mm headset jack
  • 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A CPU
  • 8GB of internal memory
  • MicroSD card support

The retail price of Samsung i7500 is said to be of around €300 ($398) – not that much for a smartphone with features like the ones listed above.

UpdateSamsung has officially confirmed the i7500; the smartphone will come in June indeed, although its exact price was not announced.

Samsung’s M7 500GB laptop drive can take a licking

While we’ve seen plenty of 500GB hard disks for laptops but Samsung’s SpinPoint M7 is the first with the guts to call itself “rugged.” The dual-platter, 2.5-inch drive spins at 5400rpm and features a 400G operational shock tolerance — that’s about 50G better than the claimed tolerances of other 500GB drives and 75G better than Sammy’s own Spinpoint M6. Expect to see the M7 ship sometime this month.
