Well, what do you know? Yet again, the tech-savvy bunch producing NBC’s Life has managed to incorporate a relatively fresh piece of technology into the storyline. For those still waiting to check the season finale on DVR, you may want to skip ahead, but for those who either a) already watched or b) don’t ever care to watch, here’s the skinny. Roman Nevikov, Charlie’s arch enemy, appeared to be tracking his every move on Palm’s Treo Pro (minus the branding). ‘Course, he also considered using it as a weapon upside Reese’s skull, but thankfully no LCDs or QWERTY keyboards were harmed during filming. So sad he’ll never get to upgrade to a Pre, ya know?

This transparent touchscreen at the Intel booth was being used to demonstrate how powerful their new Core i7 processors are. The screen was performing all kinds of fancy interactive visual tricks with a framerate readout in one corner that managed to hit 1500 fps (!) on occasion while never dropping below 400 fps.

The screen itself is nothing more than a capacitive touch panel (single touch, boo) sandwiched between two sheets of glass, which allows it to create a sort of glasses-free 3D effect. At first glance I got all excited thinking that this WAS the entire display, but it’s actually just a screen of sorts with a projector behind it. Oh well.

There’s no way this transparent touchscreen is going into production, which is a shame… It’s gorgeous, and would work brilliantly paired with one of those ultra short throw projectors.

Stop staring at the plastic wrapped photos from our pre-CES tour and have a look at Samsung’s totally uncovered 1.5-inch thick Blu-ray player. The BDP4600 is sure to kick off an all new battle of “thin for thin’s sake” amongst CE manufacturers, but honestly, given the emphasis on design or complete lack thereof on most Blu-ray hardware so far, this can’t come a moment too soon. What does it do? Your guess is as good as ours, until Samsung decides to let loose with the specifications.
