Why move dirt you’re backwards in the flat or post-production artefact to create a 5.1 contact good intermixture for your recording when the Holophone lets you effort contact good correct on set! Now if you’re actuation in a flat contact much a gadget is category of nonmeaningful presented every the land and good happens correct in face of the camera, but at something aforementioned a concert this would be a pretty enthusiastic artefact to effort the crowd’s activity as substantially as what’s event on stage.

The PortaMic 5.1 is emotional by a azygos 9V shelling which is beatific for most 3 hours use, and thanks to onboard element the evaluate is encoded on the control to Dolby Pro Logic II, though it crapper be decoded backwards to 5.1 after in post-production for comely re-mixing. But with a sound attach of around $600 it seems aforementioned an concealment for professed videographers or amateurs with deep pockets.

Zalman Headphones Offer Real 6 Channel Surround Sound

uspkr003000_01_l

By Evan Ackerman

It’s been possible for a while now to set up your sound card to output fake 5.1 channel surround sound to your headphones. Theoretically, since you only use two ears, you should be able to do some fancy soundwave stuff and replicate 6 channel (or 5.1 or whatever) sound using only 2 channels of audio. I’ve tried a couple ways of doing this with software, and so far, it’s sucked.

These headphones from Zalman (the Zalman ZM-RS6F M, to be specific) are also able to produce 6 channel sound. But, they do it using 6 separate drivers, which means that (I can only assume) it sounds a heck of a lot better than the fake stuff. You’ll need a sound card able to output discrete front, center, and rear channels, so it’s not like you can just jack these right into your iPod or something.

I can’t tell whether the drivers are that great, but you probably shouldn’t expect to be blown away by the sound quality. For movies or computer games, though, it might be a cool effect. The Zalman 6 channel ZM-RS6whateveritis headphones are $57 from Brando.

The next generation of HDMI actually adds some welcomed features

HDMI Logo Every year we stop by and talk to HDMI and every year there’s not much new. But finally we are happy to say there are some cool new things coming to the HDMI spec in 2009. Of course it will carry more pixels than the old version and then there is a new smaller connection — no not that one — but neither of those really get us excited. The real interesting additions once again fit into the “why wasn’t that there before” category. This includes an actual real high speed data Ethernet connection, and we’re happy to report that unlike the current data HDMI supports, this isn’t in the blanking interval. But that isn’t the most interesting feature — although it might end up being the most, depending on how it’s implemented — the most welcome addition is the audio return channel. Any who’s attempted to use their TV’s internal tuner knows all too well that currently although you have an HDMI cable running from your AVR to your TV, you still need another Toslink cable running back from your TV to get the surround sound out of your TV. Thankfully this will be the thing of the past, well, that is after the spec is implemented in upcoming products and you replace all your HDMI cables.

Psyko Audio’s 5.1 surround sound headphones actually look psycho

We’re still not sold on the merits of “5.1″ sets of cans, but Psyko Audio Labs is looking to push doubters over the edge with its incredibly heinous 5.1 Directional Audio Headphones. Supposedly, the company uses a special alignment technology that delivers accurate surround sound to each ear “in a natural 3D sound field.” In case you weren’t skeptical enough, there’s also a “subwoofer” in each ear cup, which sounds like a feat you’d truly have to hear to believe. Yeah, we guess the built-in amplifier — which lets gamers “customize volume and bass levels” — is pretty nifty, but for $299.99, they’d have to knock our equilibrium clean out of balance. Full release is after the break.
