Japan’s KDDI au has long been famous for its Design Project handsets — some of which have made the leap from concept to production — and the CDMA carrier is looking to ramp up its fashion street cred with the creation of an entire brand dedicated to those oh-so-special models. iida is launching with five models out of the gate: the G9 from Sony Ericsson and misora (neither of which are particularly Earth-shattering in their design) along with three stunners from celebrated Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. These are pretty… shall we say, “interesting” handsets, owing in no small part to their in-your-face polka dot design (Kusama’s trademark, it seems) — but what’s more, one of the three docks to a sculpture of a dog and another is the shape of a miniature handbag for the ladies. Continuing with the bizarre theme, iida is selling a unique charger whose cord looks like an ivy vine — must be an eco-friendly unit, otherwise the irony is overwhelming — and a pico projector using TI’s DLP tech that’ll connect to your handset for that impromptu presentation on the go. Bumptop has been around as a video concept for a few years. Now this amazing desktop organizer with a physics engine underpinning the UI is available for download (PC only). The software allows you to bump and toss weighted objects across the desktop and organize them into folders or piles the way you would on your real-world desk. It also includes the ability to pan and zoom on images with all the gesture support you’d expect. While a touchscreen (multi-touch supported when Windows 7 ships) display provides a more natural interface, Bumptop also works with a mouse. Check the video after the break — then hit up the download link below which we suspect you’ll be frantically searching for after the video ends. Granted, we don’t want to spend our days with arms outstretched at “work” in front of a touchsceen PC anymore than you, but software like this could be useful on our lesser used, kitchen PCs.

Update: Katherine Boehret and Walt Mossberg have posted their review after playing with the wares for a few days. It’s definitely “worth a try” but requires a shift from an application- to a desktop-driven approach to daily computing. Something they don’t sound eager to do regardless of how “fun” Bumptop is.

Yet again, the rumors were (almost) true. A day earlier than anticipated, Acer is launching what amounts to NVIDIA’s first Ion-based nettop beyond those on display at CES and the like. The AspireRevo is debuting today alongside a plethora of other Acer wares, boasting a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 processor, up to 4GB of RAM, up to 250GB of HDD space, a 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI / VGA outputs, gigabit Ethernet, six USB 2.0 sockets, audio in / out, Windows Vista Home Premium / Basic and a svelte black and white enclosure that measures just 7.1- x 7.1- x 1.2-inches. The built-in Ion GPU means that this bugger is completely capable of handling 1080p (and thus, Blu-ray) content, DirectX 10 and even mildly demanding games such as Call of Duty 4 and Spore. Acer’s staying mum on a price and release date, but we’re still hearing that the late Q2 time frame is a safe bet. Check the full release just past the break.

Given Fusion-io’s dominance in the SSD-on-a-PCIe-card arena, we aren’t at all shocked to hear that it just landed a nice fat check in its Series B funding efforts. $47.5 million, to be precise. According to the firm, it’ll use the dough to buy bottled unicorns, a kilo of fairy dust and “increase production capabilities” in order to pump out more wares (and hopefully at lower prices). One of those products, we’re told, will be the summer-bound ioSAN, which is explained as a “PCI Express-based product that extends the raw power of Fusion-io’s solid-state technology across the network.” In related news, the company also selected David Bradford to be its CEO, instantly making him one of the most fortunate bigwigs in the world right now.
